Resiliency – A Workplace Necessity
I recently read an insightful piece by #Fortune writer Martine Ferland on the proposed new social contract for the workplace in a post-pandemic world.
“Companies emerging from the pandemic entered a new world, where the metrics for measuring an organization’s effectiveness, competitiveness, and quality have shifted.”
In the last six months, I’ve spoken with many leaders who acknowledge this “new world” but only a small group of executives are actually spending real dollars to IMPROVE workplace resilience.
Last week I spoke with a C-Suite leader in the U.K. who said he doesn’t understand why companies are willing to overpay for consultants to help with recovery AFTER an event (and it’s already too late) instead of paying a fraction by preparing, planning, and mitigating these events BEFORE they occur.
In today’s unprecedented divisive and fragmented world, board leaders and C-Suite executives need to invest in the mental and physical health, preparedness, and resiliency of its workforce, including community engagement and family wellness, before, during, and after a negative event.
Ferland writes, “While we may not have seen the end of COVID-19’s influence on our world, it has become clear that we cannot move forward without addressing the issues that have arisen from the last two years and adjusting our perspective on how to promote quality workplaces.”
Well said.
Resiliency is no longer a grand abstract or ideal, but a necessity to prosper in an increasingly complex world of severed supply chains, cyber failures, and disconnected facilities.
The time is NOW to invest in your employees, customers, partners, and stakeholders by elevating confidence, autonomy, and satisfaction through connection, communication, and resilience.
